Kindermusik Offerings

See below for Classes In Progress, October 2008 Classes & Winter 2009 Classes
FACULTY

Miss Melanie Harrah earned a BA degree from Florida Atlantic University with an emphasis in music education, and has been performing in choirs and as a soloist since she was a young child. She has performed with a straight superior chorus, a show choir, and a barbershop quartet. Melanie’s performances have been on many stages, including The Kravis Center in Palm Beach, Florida and Carnegie Hall in New York City. Miss Melanie had been certified to teach the trademark Kindermusik programs and leads the Kindermusik program at RiverBend. Miss Melanie's classes are more free-style with encouraged exploration play and less structure if your child is more adaptive to this type of learning.

Miss Sara Weaver is RiverBend's most recent addition to Kindermusik instruction. Sara has taught two semesters of Kindermusik since being certified in the program in January 2007. She looks forward to seeing many more children experience the Kindermusik program in the future. Sara has been working with children for more than fifteen years through daycare, church, school, and has four young children of her own. She is also married to a husband serving locally in ministry. Sara brings more structure and calming methodology to her programs if your child is more adaptive to this type of learning. She loves to provide classes for children of all ages, and introduce them to a variety of fun music and movement.

Class: Sign and Sing
Time: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-1:30pm
Class Meets: 10/21/2008 – 11/20/2008 (10 sessions in 5 weeks)
Ages: 6 months to 3 years
Tuition: $160 (includes materials - pay plans available)
Teacher: Miss Melanie

Play, sign, and sing using everyday items in engaging small and large group activities, we’ll sing songs and practice the sign as we say the words, play with toys, and help the children learn both the spoken word and the sign.
Expert Advice - Parents will learn to spot their babies’ most “teachable moments” and the sign language teaching methods of the experts. Plus they’ll learn to recognize and respond to their children’s versions of signs.
Communication Through Sign Language - When a child is chasing a bubble or asking for the ball, make the sign for it and say the word. So a child has the ways to associate the word with the object: the child holds the ball, hears the parent say the word, and then sees the adult make the sign.
